Bone Mineral Densitometry

Empowering Your Bone Health Journey

At Radiology Associates, we’re committed to empowering patients with comprehensive insights into their bone health through advanced bone mineral densitometry (BMD) services. Our state-of-the-art BMD testing is a cornerstone in the early detection and management of osteoporosis and other bone-related conditions, enabling us to offer personalized care plans tailored to your unique health needs.

Bone mineral densitometry is a non-invasive, painless diagnostic procedure that uses low-dose X-rays to measure bone density and mineral content. By assessing the strength and thickness of your bones, BMD testing provides critical information that can help predict your risk of fractures and diagnose conditions like osteoporosis before they lead to serious complications.

Why Choose BMD Testing?

Early Detection

BMD testing can identify osteoporosis and other bone health issues at their earliest stages, often before symptoms appear.

Risk Assessment

Understanding your bone density helps determine your risk of fractures, guiding preventative measures to protect your bone health.

Treatment Monitoring

For patients undergoing treatment for osteoporosis, BMD testing is an invaluable tool for monitoring the effectiveness of therapy and making necessary adjustments.

Personalized Care

Your BMD results enable our team to tailor recommendations and interventions specific to your bone health needs.

Who Should Consider BMD Testing?

BMD testing is particularly recommended for individuals who are at increased risk of osteoporosis, including:

Postmenopausal women

Men and women over age 50 with risk factors for bone loss

Anyone with a family history of osteoporosis

Individuals who have experienced fractures with minimal trauma

Patients on long-term steroid therapy or other medications that affect bone density

Your BMD Testing Experience

Our BMD testing process is designed with your comfort in mind. During the procedure, you’ll lie on a padded table while the densitometer scans one or more areas of your body, typically the lower spine and hips. The entire process is quick, taking only a few minutes to complete, with no special preparation required.
