How Should I Prepare for the Ultrasound?
No special preparation is needed for a scrotal ultrasound. You can eat, drink, and take medications as usual.
What Will Happen During My Appointment?
Upon arrival, you’ll be provided with a gown and asked to undress from the waist down. The examination is conducted with you lying on your back. Your privacy is respected throughout, with only the area of interest exposed. A sonographer will apply a warm gel to your scrotum to enhance the ultrasound’s sound wave transmission. While capturing images, mild pressure will be applied, and any discomfort, especially in sensitive areas, will be minimized as much as possible. The entire process typically lasts 15-20 minutes.
Are There Any Risks?
Scrotal ultrasounds are low-risk. You may feel some discomfort due to the transducer’s pressure, particularly if the testicular area is already sensitive or tender from conditions such as torsion or infection. However, this discomfort is temporary.
